Hello,

I’m a software architect and consultant based in Philadelphia, PA.

For over 25 years, I have been designing and developing high-quality software products for various enterprise and mobile applications, across diverse industries such as carbon and sustainability, ecology, utilities, building energy, communications, and advertising. As the Founder and Principal Consultant of Abacus Internet, Inc., I conduct short-term and long-term projects primarily focused on system architecture and software development, delivering substantial value to customers with reliable, secure, and innovative solutions.

A few of my projects

Healthy Buildings

A commercial building has hundreds of locations where air quality needs to be monitored and energy usage needs to be minimized. To achieve this, a cloud platform is needed that can handle massive amounts of data from thousands of IoT devices, while maintaining high performance and low costs. Additionally, the system needs to be compatible with other control systems in the building for seamless communication. I was the leader of the design and development team that created a cloud platform and desktop tool for a cutting-edge building systems and controls company in Boston that solved these challenges.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a complex concept that requires measurement and visualization. I worked with a small ecology company and Microsoft to find a solution. I led the team that developed web-based and mobile tools that made ecologists’ work easier and more efficient. These tools also enabled large corporations like DOW Chemical to see the value of making land use changes that are driven by sustainability.

Carbon and Energy

A small, creative engineering firm in Philadelphia had a vision: a web based system that tracks various environmental and energy metrics, such as energy use, utility data, renewable energy generation, carbon emissions, waste reduction, water conservation, and fleet data. They also wanted to include a tool that evaluates the impact of projects on those metrics. This was a novel idea in 2003, and it soon drew the attention of many fortune 500 companies, such as Pfizer, GSK, Wyeth, Lockheed Martin, Xerox, and Dell. They became customers of the system I spearheaded the development of - the Energy and Emissions Management System (E2MS). The system was later acquired by Johnson Controls.
